| From Tuesday 10th January 2006, Paddington's image will be appearing on letters all over the UK with the launch of a new set of special stamps from Royal Mail.
Animal Tales celebrates the enduring popularity and universal appeal of illustrated children’s literature and showcases some of its most popular animal creations.
The eight stamps will be issued in four pairs and feature seven ‘home-grown’ books, plus an eighth from the United States.
 There’s not much in common between the animals appearing on the 1st Class stamps: while Paddington enjoys nothing more than munching away on a marmalade sandwich, the other prefers to lunch on small children; but both Paddington and The Enormous Crocodile will be instantly recognisable to young and old alike.
The Paddington stamp, which can be seen on the right, features an illustration by Peggy Fortnum from the second Paddington book, "More About Paddington" which was first published in 1959.
